Steven Tyler, Aerosmith leave Manila after sellout show

American rock band Aerosmith led by singer Steven Tyler left Manila on Thursday afternoon, flying to the US via Bangkok on board Thai Airways flight TG 621 at 1:05PM at the NAIA terminal 1.

Accompanied by their retinue of security personnel, Tyler and his bandmates checked in at the Customs and Immigration lane in less than 10 minutes, surprising passengers and airport employees.

No one was able to ask for a photo ops with the former “American Idol” judge as he was whisked away to the airport’s VIP room, where he waited before boarding his flight.

Aerosmith arrived in Manila on Sunday and performed in a sellout concert at the Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday night. Tickets to the show — the only Asian stop so far in their ongoing world tour — cost as high P20,000 ($480).

The band behind such rock anthems as “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” and “Walk This Way” will return to Asia in August to do several shows in Japan.

35 Years Ago – Aerosmith Release ‘Draw the Line’

Aerosmith were coming off the peak of their success when they went into the studio for ‘Draw the Line.’ In the wake of back-to-back classics ‘Toys in the Attic’ and ‘Rocks,’ the group were positioned to deliver an album that would have cemented their legacy alongside ’70s stalwarts like Led Zeppelin. Instead, they turned in an oddly dispirited album that heralded a dramatic reversal of fortunes in their career.

The group recorded ‘Draw the Line’ in an abandoned convent that they rented out, but they weren’t exactly behaving like saints; egos, drugs and fighting were a regular part of the band’s life by that time, and the members of Aerosmith would later recall the sessions as a turning point when the music began to feel uninspired.

Not that the album was entirely bad by any means. The title track ‘Draw the Line‘ was classic Aerosmith, and has figured prominently in their live set ever since. But much of the album consisted of should-have-been-great-but-not-quite tracks like ‘I Wanna Know Why,’ ‘Get It Up,’ and ‘Sight For Sore Eyes,’ all of which featured important elements of the classic Aerosmith sound, but somehow didn’t quite catch fire.

‘Critical Mass,’ with its bizarre harmonica parts, sounded almost like a band trying to sound like Aerosmith instead of the actual group, while Joe Perry’s punk-y solo offering ‘Bright Light Fright‘ was a somewhat misguided attempt to bend with the times, and ‘The Hand That Feeds‘ was a disjointed noisefest in search of a real song. ‘Kings and Queens‘ was an odd departure for Aerosmith that sounded more like a Queen b-side or even a lost Rush track, which music critic Robert Christgau called “synthesized medieval pomp-rock.”

Even the better tracks were hampered by a flat, one-dimensional audio production that seemed barely professional quality. Rolling Stone destroyed the album in print, saying, “‘Draw the Line’ is a truly horrendous record, chaotic to the point of malfunction and with an almost impenetrably dense sound adding to the confusion.”

Even so, the album was commercially successful upon its release, going platinum and eventually being certified double platinum. But the band were set on a downward course, and during the recording of their next album, ‘Night in the Ruts,’ Perry departed the group, bringing about the end of their classic era. The original lineup would not play together again until 1985, when they reunited for ‘Done With Mirrors.’

Steven Tyler Apologizes to Nicki Minaj; Ex-American Idol Judge Says He's "Not a Racist"

Steven Tyler isn't looking to feud.

The former American Idol judge is sorry that Nicki Minaj found his comments to be racist. "I apologize if it was taken wrong, Nicki," the Aerosmith rocker said Tuesday on eTalk, a Canadian entertainment show.

"But I am the farthest from [being a racist]," he said. "I am the last thing on this planet as far as being a racist. I don't know where she got that out of me saying I'm not sure how she would've judged Bob Dylan."

Minaj was outraged after Tyler told MTV he thought the "Starships" singer "would have sent [Dylan] to the cornfield" if he'd come on Idol. But Tyler insisted he only meant, "if Bob Dylan came on the show, he would've been thrown off."

"Maybe I spoke out of turn," he said. "But a racist I'm not, Nicki."

Joe Perry: Aerosmith Are 'Getting Along Better Than Ever'

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry sought to quell rumors that the band was squabbling again in a recent chat with Eddie Trunk on his Sirius/XM show Eddie Trunk Live. "It must have been a slow news week," Perry joked, when asked about a recent item in the New York Post that said band members were "barely speaking" to each other.

"We were wondering, 'Who's saying this?' and 'Why are they saying this?' It's totally wrong and irrelevant," Perry went on. "The least they could have done was get [the facts] right." Perry said the Post talked to people who haven't been connected with Aerosmith for a decade or more, adding, "The band is getting along better than ever. We were thinking about [releasing a statement], but then why even validate it by even answering."

Having just released their latest record, Music From Another Dimension, Aerosmith are also finishing up their North American tour with Cheap Trick.

"No matter what goes on" behind the scenes, Perry added, "we do everything and put aside everything for the fans. We give everything up for the audience."

Perry also noted that following the tour, he's planning to keep working on his book and also some "solo stuff."

Aerosmith album should have been two records

Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton believes the band should have considered making two separate albums rather than merging styles on comeback release Music From Another Dimension.

He admits they had concerns over working with classic-era producer Jack Douglas, but says the overriding vibe in the band was delight that, for the first time in a decade, every member wanted to make a record.

Hamilton tells Puregrain Audio: “There are times in the past where we thought we’d record stuff, and ‘wouldn’t it be great to work with Jack?’ Everyone would kind of nod, but it seemed, ‘Is this really a great idea? Are we trying to go back to the past or what?’

“I don’t think everybody wanted it really, really bad. There was a day we’d do it because that was our cycle – we’d tour for a couple of years and make a record. That’s not true now.

“There came a moment when there was absolutely no doubt. It’s what got us into the studio. I’ll go out far on the limb and say Jack is the reason there’s an album, really.”

While Hamilton says Aerosmith didn’t consciously decide to make a 70s-sounding record, he accepts there’s a heavy influence from the band’s early era, which is contrasted with a series of 90s-style ballad tracks.

Asked if they ever thought of making Music From Another Dimension into a pair of distinct products, he says: “No, but we probably should have.

“It would have been a great business decision to save half the record for later, but it’s been too long since we put out a record. We chose what was on this album based on how good the songs came. We really wanted to get it all out there and not wait not hold back.”

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler recently caused controversy by describing former tour mates Kiss as a “comic book” act and saying their work sometimes “offended” him, prompting responses from Paul Stanley and Peter Criss. Hamilton has a different view of his colleague’s words.

“If you talk to Gene Simmons, he might even agree with it – he was a huge comic book fan, like most of us were in our early days. Some of us made a separation between that and what we did musically, but he wanted to live that out with his band.

“It’s pretty cool. I don’t necessarily listen to Kiss that often, but I love that songs of theirs, ‘I want to rock and roll all nite and party every day.’ It’s just really accurate in describing what teenage males want.”

Music From Another Dimension is released on November 6. Aerosmith will play a show in the streets of their home town Boston the day before.

Aerosmith Go Full-Throttle on Raucous New Song 'Lover Alot'

Now that Steven Tyler is finished with American Idol, he has plenty of time to lay down vocals with Aerosmith on songs like "Lover Alot," a new tune the band is streaming. It's a bombastic rocker with a propulsive beat and pounding bassline that anchor motormouth vocals from Tyler and a squealing guitar solo from Joe Perry.

The song is the second the band has posted from its forthcoming album, Music From Another Dimension. The band debuted the first tune, "Legendary Child," in a performance on Idol in May. Music From Another Dimension is due November 6th.

Steven Tyler votes self off ‘American Idol’, returns to Aerosmith

LOS ANGELES – Rocker Steven Tyler on Thursday bowed out of his job as a judge on top-rated television singing contest “American Idol” for the coming season, saying he wants to dedicate himself to his band, Aerosmith.

Tyler’s departure comes as his fellow judge, Jennifer Lopez, also weighs whether to return to the program that once reigned supreme atop U.S. TV ratings but has seen its audience shrink in recent years.

Third panelist Randy Jackson seems a likely bet to return this fall for the program’s 12th season as either a judge or in a mentoring role.

“I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I’m back,” the band’s lead singer said in a statement.

“I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress ‘American Idol’ before she boils my rabbit,” Tyler added, in a reference to the thriller movie, “Fatal Attraction.” “I got two fists in the air, and I’m kicking the door open with my band.”

Tyler, 64, and Aerosmith had amassed numerous hits like “Walk This Way” and “I Don’t Want To Miss a Thing” since gaining fame in the 1970s, but the group had reached a lull a few years back when the singer decided to join “American Idol” as a judge.

The addition of Tyler and Lopez to the judging panel in the season that began in January 2011 sparked great interest in the Fox TV network’s hit show.

But the most recent season that ended in May had the lowest-rated finale in 11 years with just 21.5 million Americans tuning in to watch Phillip Phillips win the title and recording contract that comes with it. More than 30 million viewers watched the show’s finale in its heyday in 2006 and 2007.

Mark Darnell, president of alternative entertainment for Fox, called Tyler “a terrific judge, a true friend, and great mentor” on the show.

“We are very sad that Steven has chosen to focus more on his music, but we always knew when we hired a rock ‘n roll legend, he would go back to music,” Darnell said in a statement.

Indeed, Tyler’s return to performing seemed foremost on his mind in March when Aerosmith announced it would go on a North American tour that began June 16, and release their first album in eight years, “Music From Another Dimension,” on Nov. 6.

The flamboyant rocker’s departure leaves a big hole on the “American Idol” judges panel as he has been a fan favorite. He helped create one of this past season’s dramatic moments when young Jessica Sanchez was voted off by fans, then saved from elimination after Tyler and fellow judge Jackson stormed the stage in her defense. Sanchez went on to the finals.

Still in doubt is the fate of Lopez, another music superstar, who just this morning on NBC’s “Today” show seemed still undecided about her next move.

“It’s been on my mind a lot, as you can imagine,” she said. “You know, I signed on to ‘American Idol’ to do one year, and … I wound up doing the two years. And now it’s like, ‘OK, do we continue on this journey?’”

Dream On - Aerosmith

I love this song!

Dream On By: Aerosmith

Every time I look in the mirror
All these lines on my face getting clearer
The past is gone
It went by, like dusk to dawn
Isn't that the way
Everybody's got their dues in life to pay

Yeah, I know nobody knows
where it comes and where it goes
I know it's everybody's sin
You got to lose to know how to win

Half my life's
in books' written pages
Lived and learned from fools and
from sages
You know it's true
All the things come back to you

Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me now, if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good lord will take you away

Yeah, sing with me, sing for the year
sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
sing with me, if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away

Dream On Dream On Dream On
Dream until your dream comes true
Dream On Dream On Dream On
Dream until your dream comes through
Dream On Dream On Dream On
Dream On Dream On
Dream On Dream On, Ahhhhhhhhhhh

Sing with me, sing for the year
sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
sing with me now, if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away
Sing with me, sing for the year
sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me now, if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away.....
